Head Down for a Few days

Just a quick note to say I'm working on the page proofs for Indiscreet so I have my head down getting through those. Plus too much day job stuff bleeding into my real life and eating up my evenings. Sigh so I am behind in everything now and getting paid less for more work. Should Not Compute. But it does, sadly.

Am also woefully unprepared for RWA in July. However, good news is that I'll be at the Literacy signing July 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm so if you're in the DC area, come by!

On July 24 I'll be at the Hachette booth at Comic Con San Diego signing 200 free copies of My Forbidden Desire so if you're there, drop by. When not signing I will be looking for Alexander Skarsgard and all things True Blood related. I'm only there for the day. I'll post better time info when I have it.

Early Blog on Busy Day

My son had a soccer tournament in a city about an hour's drive away. I don't even play the games and I come away exhausted. Why is that? I did a bit of notebooking in between games or beforehand and got some (but not a lot) done when I got home Saturday.

Between games Saturday I went with another of the parents and our kids to find lunch, which we did. We also found a bookstore so I went in and they had My Wicked Enemy so I checked in with them and signed their stock and left some bookmarks. They said they sell a lot of Romance and were quite excited to hear about the SF chapter of RWA. They're a lovely independent in Benicia. I bought some of the coolest magnets ever for the Wicked Cool contest.

Today, they had an 8:00am game which means we had to leave home at 6:00am. On a Sunday. Sigh. They won their game which meant they were in the finals at 1:30. So we went off to have brunch and then do some shopping errands. I discovered that the Pleasanton Target had a lot of books, but only high profile authors (No My Wicked Enemy) which I was surprised to discover made for an extremely boring book section. I shouldn't have been surprised. They were all facing out (makes sense) but considering they had multiple titles by the same author, the selection was quite limited and, as mentioned, very uninspired. I'd just never seen that in person.

But down the mall was a very large Barnes and Noble and they had My Wicked Enemy so I signed their stock and left bookmarks. They were really nice and they moved my books to the front of the store! I hadn't brought any signed by author stickers since I wasn't expecting to go to any bookstores, and both stores were kind enough to use their stickers.

And, last thing, I think. On Saturday while we were in the bookstore the kids went down two stores to the Pet Food Express where they were having a pet adoption. My son has been looking for a kitten for quite a while, but he never saw one that he wanted. Saturday he found a kitten. He came back to find me and tell me he'd found the one so now we have Tiger who is a female kitten, already spayed, has her first shot and is negative for Feline luekemia. She's from a feral litter but has been with a foster family that's been handling her. Tiger is a pale tan cat. I'll try to get a pic when she's settled in a bit. She's very pretty.

Now off to do some writing before I crash for the night.

Weekends seem to go really fast

Well, once again, I didn't get as much done as I wanted. Saturday was a known wash word-wise since I was at my local chapter meeting and then the Dublin Barnes & Noble signing and listening to scenes being read from books. The actors were totally fabulously awesome. There is a a HUGE difference between listening to a good reader read and an actor reading those same lines. If you missed it, well, gosh. Next time don't! But get on down there because there are still some signed books to be had in time for valentine's day.

About the actors: Travis Poelle is even cuter than his photo. What a hunk. And when he read Candice Hern's scene in a perfect British accent, I tell you, there were swooning ladies all over. Totally and utterly hot. Melanee E. Nelson was just as amazing. She's gorgeous and I just loved the way she did my heroine from DX. The two of them got the exchange between my hero and heroine dead on the way I imagined it. And, judging from the reaction, people thought that scene was just as funny as I hoped it was.

My local chapter (San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of RWA) plans on doing this again. I hope they do, it was wonderful. We learned a few things to improve for next time and I heard some great ideas, so yay!

I didn't get home from Dublin until nearly seven, and I needed some face time with my son, so about all the writing I did was working on my chapter outline late last night. Things were seriously out of whack from where the chapters are and though that process doesn't produce new words, really I can't proceed without it. Maybe I'm a closet plotter. In the early stages, I need to keep the two fairly well in sync because I use the chapter outline to figure out where stuff needs to be moved etc.

Today, I got a bit done. Not much, though I hit the secret minimum. There were errands to run, and my son needed library books for his report on Poison Dart Frogs. We ended up going to the Sonoma State University library, and then we walked around the campus because he thinks the campus is pretty, which it is. So we had a nice walk and chat. Got home from that, after a stop for grocery shopping, about three and once the groceries were put away, I had to make cookies for his lunch, and then it was time for dinner. Yikes. But, as I said, I met my secret minimum. So far, I have 32,829 words. That's a third done, when you think about it. I wrote my Makeover With Temporary Tattoo scene. And tomorrow I will write the Proposition Goes Dangerously Bad Scene. Or maybe the Nighttime Visit scene, not sure which. I'll have to check the outline to see which comes next. Actually, I'll write which ever one seems more exciting, which is probably the PGDB scene.
