Writer's Diary

Happy 4th of July. Work on The Spare is going well. Pretty well. I've been working on it a lot, and this is good, of course. I actually think the entire structure is there now and all I need to do ha! is polish. By that I mean the plot points are all there, I have 35 plus chapters, still about 60K words -- of increasingly good quality -- (One of the chapters has only one sentence, I suppose I should just delete it). I know what's going to happen but as I re-write elements will not be carried out as I think right now. I've been having the thought lately that it's hard to have FZ and DR and now TV, I have to keep remembering they're in the story. What that means, I believe is either I collapse some of the characters, perhaps FZ and TV? or work on the interrelationships of them. However, I have too many passages where there's just set up without relationship and conflict development, so all those scenes need to be rewritten. According to my new philosophy, re-writes should be immediate. No point in letting stinky parts continue to stink. Want to focus on the ghost elements and am wondering if I need to develop a unified theory of ghosts. =:o)
