Good News! Liesure Books has bought Lord Ruin. Good. My agent advises me to send off a proposal for the WIP, which would be The Spare and since it's pretty far along, I will. Speaking of The Spare, I cut another chapter but will probably re-use parts of it and am adding another. But it feels unfocused and probably is. Work. Argh. I wish this were easy.

btw, Lord Ruin is under consideration at Liesure Books (Dorchester Publishing) so now I serve who only stand and wait. Right? While I'm waiting, I've been working on The Spare, mostly the synopsis because I have got to stop taking so many sidetracks to unfruitful (read boring) territory and so I will try the synposis-first approach. I can see it has value, but I also know I would not be where I am now with the Spare if I hadn't started writing... On the other hand, maybe I'd have gotten here sooner if the synopsis were complete. What is true is the synopsis, if you're paying attention, will show you where your plot needs some help. There's only one way to find out. So, I am cutting a chapter and looking for a chapter where the good parts will be more at home. That's certain. Other than that, I'm doing a read-through so see what else stinks and has to go. On a brighter note, I will also be noting what does work (and moving quickly on to the stuff that doesn't.) Oh, and I also worked up GMC charts for the main cast of characters for TS. (Goal Motivation and Conflict. This comes from Debra Dixon and it works, though I think the more focus you need, the better this method helps, which is the intention anyway, to get you focused. And, having read-through the first few chaps, I now see the stuff that I thought was really really really good isn't quite, or, more accurately, still needs some tweaks. At least it's not wretched.
