Writer's Diary

Was feeling hopless again, but now I can see some parts really coming together. I'm still feeling around for some of the character development, but I have glimmers on just about everyone and some exciting notions on the main characters. So, things are not entirely bad. There are times when I wish I could just wake up and have a full draft already done. Rats. Gotta do it myself. And, I can't do it fast because then the work is really not good. Still thinking about frankness in the diary.

More rewrites. Deleted Chapter 1, stuck chapters 6 and 7 at the beginning, stripped out a long conversation in former Chap 6 which will now take place between SA and another character instead of SA/OW. This will work well, I think. Am adjusting SA so that he is actually being presented with wife candidates and OW tells him she's engaged in the first chapter. Also, as an aside, I am debating just how frank to be in this blog. I've been dancing around a few issues but I'm beginning to think, why? Except, of course, it might hurt some feelings in the event someone besides me looks at this.

Well, didn't realize it's been so many days. Am adding some chapters toward the beginning. Have been doing some critiquing for a writer's group. I've discovered I shouldn't do any work after I've done critiques. The mind set and frustration bleeds through. I tried to go over some of my own chapters and suddenly felt very depressed. The words seemed uninspired, the story horrible. But, I know it's not. Anyway, I have about 30K words in the whole and hope to add about 5K more before the weekend, as I have some days off.
