Just an observation

Boy, this is interesting. I'm just going to free form an observation I've been mulling over a bit. A while back, I read my first Lee Child book. I was floored, amazed, enthralled, and I've blogged more than once about his books. (Oh, joy, I have not yet read them all, I have reader's nirvanah to look forward too.) Today, Miss Snark posted about him. Here's the interesting thing for me. I read Lee Child and immediately turned the book over to my father and got him hooked. (that's 2) Then my sister (that's 3) then Megan Frampton (that's 4 plus Megan had also heard raves about Child from someone else.) Then I blogged about Killing Floor which it appears prompted Marjorie Lui to get his books (that's 5). I've mentioned him to everyone I know who loves to read.

I eventually picked up Lee Child in the first place because Miss Snark had mentioned him as someone she likes to read. Miss Snark is highly critical (meant in the nicest way!) so if she likes him, I figured chances were good so would I. I did NOT buy the book because I saw a slick ad or went to his website or read a review or whatever.

You can talk about marketing and promotion until you're blue in the face, but that's not what turned one reader into 5. Great writing did that.
