sucky writing is better than
no writing at all. I've been working hard on Possession. Over the weekend, I fixed some major issues with the chapters I have and the order they're in. I cleaned up (I think) all the places that were from before my first paradigm shift. Which feels good. So, with my chapters rearranged and/or merged with others so as to fit the plot as it's developed so far, I printed out my ~95 pages across 16 chapters. Sigh. Many of the chapters are too thin and not well enough motivated. Neither the hero nor the heroine feel as though they are two fully-realized people who have only just met. What I have right now is a hero and heroine who are going to be in love. What I need is a hero and heroine who have no idea they are going to be in love. It's really hard to get there. Hard. Hard. Hard. I did have two very good inspirations about the story and those ideas are in the chapters I have, and the adjustments for that have been made in the other chapters. Oh, no, it sucks! Mad work to fix the sucky writing. Then more writing and adjusting etc, and then oh, no, it sucks! Repeat until insane or done.
The bright side is I have a list of things I need to work on.
Another bright side is this is what I go through with every book.
So, in reality, I should be saying, "Yay! It sucks!"
That, I do believe, is what you call irony.
