Writer's Diary

Today was a strangely productive day. First, I didn't get up early like I wanted to last night. Sleep is good. Took son to school, got coffee, went to school myself to tutor. Got there early enough to get in 25 minutes on a better synopsis for The List. Then tutored. Then an hour to work on the synopsis some more, but I have no idea how the darn thing is going to end, except, of course, happily. Duh! Then a meeting about conjuctions. Grammar talk flying fast and furious, then about an hour and a half where I was sick of the synopsis and besides I just really wanted to read my favorite chapters from The List, so I did that and I got some good work done. Clear that I need more work on the opening chapters to set up the great stuff later. Anyway, had to leave early because son had dental appt. Got in 15 mins at the dentist office. Then to son's Aikido, where I got in another hour or so, then home at last where....

I had an email from the Vines agency, which I knew would be no and it was. My projects are not right for their list. Well, duh, I say to myself because all I had to send was synopses which suck. This is my problem, great stories (so I like to think) great writing, sucky synopses. I hate those things. I swear they're designed to make writers even more insecure than they already are. I think someone could make a fortune offering to read MS and writing the synopsis for the writer. Anyway, I am convinced I cannot sell on the strength of a synopsis, but I can sell on the strength of my writing. But now I am despressed. Plus I have to fix the synopsis for The List so I can send it, and Lord Ruin off to the next agent. This one I have a shot at since presumably, she will read Lord Ruin, since she asked for a copy, and thus figure out I am not without some degree of talent.

I have read through the counterfeiting material Eric T brought back from London. Good stuff, and I got some great notions about plot stuff that need to percolate a bit. Snowed under with school.

Lastly, I just want to say that I am thrilled with all my favorite chapters of The List. They're really, really good. Ok, now really last, I'm worried The Spare sucks and it won't matter how good The List is because no one will ever publish me again. And so to bed.
