John Llewellyn is the younger brother of Gwilym, earl of Banallt. He met the love of his life in Lieutenant Thomas Mercer and was devastated by his death in the war. In order to provide cover for their relationship, Mercer eloped with a young and pregnant Lily Emily. Mercer takes care to acknowledge Lily's children as his, even though he's not their biological father. John accepts the responsibility of looking after Mercer's children, of whom he is, in fact, very fond. To that end, he proposes to Pansy Emily. John finds a new lover in King whom he brings to Havenwood and charges with keeping watch over Pansy and the children.
John's uneasy relationship with his older brother is severely strained when he learns that Gwilym has seduced Pansy.
