The Rules

1st Rule: Fiction writing must be active and immediate.

2nd Rule: Don't tell readers stuff they don't need to know.

3rd Rule: Allow your readers to figure things out.

4th Rule: Never remind readers they're reading.

5th Rule: You must re-write.

6th Rule: Know the rules of the language and follow them.

7th Rule: Understand your time period. Details do matter.

8th Rule: Make it pretty. Format correctly!

9th Rule: Favor the specific over the generic.

10th Rule: Every element of your story must possess both set-up and motivation.
